Mothering with Confidence (in home service) with Melanie Cane
Do you often wish that your new baby came with it's own manual? And you've been reading all the 'must have' books and they just don't seem to be working for you or your situation? That's because you and your baby are unique! There is NO 'one size fits all' solution.
But help is at hand. Melanie Cane has been working with mothers and families just like yours for many years and is very well respected and sought after. Her knowledge around early parenting challenges is extensive, and her non-judgemental, calm and gentle approach is popular with mothers from all sorts of backgrounds.
Her role is extremely broad and extensive, depending on the mother's needs. She believes that the more a mother is cared for, the quicker she can get to know, and enjoy, her baby.
Melanie has over 20 years experience in breastfeeding, bottle feeding, sleep and settling, newborn care, and will refer to health professionals if needed.
Melanie also believes that her role is to 'do herself out of a job'. She has the skills to help empower the mother, so that she can be confident that she understands her baby and it's needs, which brings enjoyment and joy.
Melanie is available for consultations in your home and will travel to most areas of Melbourne from Mt Martha all around to Coburg and out as far as Pakenham. Her costs have been kept deliberately affordable for those who are on a limited income.

"Melanie joined our family following the birth of our premature twins and to also assist with the care of our two older children. From the beginning she was a very welcome and much needed addition to our family. We were feeling overwhelmed with having a 3.5 year old, 1.5 year old and then the unexpected blessing of twins, so as you can imagine our house was chaotic! As a very independent woman, I was unsure of the exact role Melanie would play in our home. It did not take long for me to figure she was a godsend and going without her was not even a consideration. Melanie initially assisted me by helping with all of the children while I was in the home, offering me the chance to sleep, talk over any queries I had and giving me a hand with the day to day jobs that come with twins….that’s lots of washing, bathing, diaper changes and just sitting giving cuddles. I eagerly anticipated her arrival and took a deep sigh of relief as she came through the door. Just to have another set of hands was a blessing…..having twins can be exhausting and to just be able to take a shower in peace was invaluable.
After a few weeks, Melanie and I had slotted well into one another’s company and I felt confident and excited to leave her with the twins and finally go out the door…alone…. and reconnect with friends and just life in general. Mel always did extra things while I was out that made such a difference to me. She might cook dinner, bake some cookies, change and wash the bed sheets or vacuum the house. Always her number one priority were the twins but if they were sleeping peacefully she would always manage something extra.
Melanie was a godsend to our family and no doubt would still be helping us if we had not relocated overseas. She is caring, loving and has an incredible ability to just slot into a family with little fuss. I loved having Melanie as part of our family and I know anyone else who takes her on will feel just the same way."

"Coming home from the hospital I was in overwhelm within hours. One phone call to Melanie and I immediately felt more competent with some advice that helped tide me over until she came for a home visit (on a Sunday all the way to Footscray!) Spending a couple of hours with Mel was invaluable, we started by recounting my birth experience from start to finish, as she explained how bub came into the world has an impact on his ability to breastfeed. She gave us soooo many tips and also observed how I was breastfeeding and corrected a few things that really helped. She is an amazing educator that cares deeply about the connection between Mum and Bub. She provided really good follow up support over the phone and its so reassuring to know Mel and TLC Birth and Beyond are there for continued support and education."
